Individual Therapy for Adolescents and Adults

You can rewrite your life story.

Life can be like a rollercoaster ride, with its many ups and downs and twists and turns.  It can feel unpredictable, scary, and at times, overwhelming.  Regardless of what you are going through, please know that you do not have to face it alone.  In our sessions together, I seek to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and work towards creating positive change in your life.

Therapeutic Modalities

While my clinical orientation is psychodynamic and relational, my approach is integrative, drawing from many evidenced-based therapy models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I also have advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), and other trauma-informed, mindfulness-based approaches.

  • This is a type of talk therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. Through CBT, you can learn to challenge your thoughts and beliefs, develop healthier coping strategies, and break free from self-defeating habits. The goal of CBT is not to dwell on the past, but to equip you with the skills and tools to manage your present challenges and create a better future for yourself.

  • DBT combines elements of CBT with mindfulness techniques to help individuals build resilience and regulate their emotions. It focuses on developing skills such as distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to cope with difficult situations and improve relationships. DBT can be particularly helpful for those struggling with intense emotions or self-destructive behaviors.

  • IFS is based on the idea that we all have different "parts" within ourselves and these parts can sometimes be in conflict with each other, leading to emotional disturbance. Through IFS therapy, you can learn to identify and understand these inner parts, build a relationship with them, and find harmony within yourself. This approach allows for deep self-exploration and healing, ultimately leading to a more integrated and balanced sense of self.

  • EMDR is a specialized type of therapy that focuses on processing and resolving traumatic memories or experiences. Through a series of bilateral eye movements or other forms of stimulation, EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories, leading to a reduction in emotional distress and symptoms related to trauma. This approach can be highly effective for individuals struggling with PTSD, anxiety disorders, and other trauma-related issues.

  • SP is a body-centered approach to therapy, focusing on the connection between our minds and bodies. Through SP, you can learn to tune into your physical sensations and use them as a guide for understanding and processing emotions. This approach can be particularly beneficial for those struggling with trauma or other issues that have led to disconnection from their bodies. By integrating the mind-body connection, SP can help you heal and find a sense of safety and grounding within yourself.

  • Mindfulness meditation is a research-proven way to reduce stress, improve cognitive functioning, and foster calm and inner peace. Psychologists have found that mindfulness meditation changes our brain and biology in positive ways that can improve both mental and physical health. Through these approaches, you can learn to better manage your thoughts and emotions, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase self-awareness.

There is strength in accepting support.

It takes courage to acknowledge that you need help and then reach out for it.  In the 20+ years I have been working as a psychologist, I have had the privilege of helping many individuals, couples and families through challenging times. Therapy provides a safe space where you can freely express and explore your thoughts, feelings, and struggles without fear of judgment.  It is a powerful tool for self-discovery and growth.  It can provide insight into patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, offer practical tools for coping with difficult emotions, and help you develop strengths and enhance areas of joy in your life. I am so glad you are considering taking this step toward making a positive change in your life and I am here to help.
